Say Hello to Our New West Lake and Boone Park

The City of Atlanta broke ground on the new West Lake and Boone Park at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and West Lake Avenue.

The new park is named after the history the late Rev. Joseph Everhart Boone, a civil rights activist and organizer who marched together with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boone was appointed chief negotiator by Dr. King for Operation Breadbasket.

According to a City of Atlanta press release, "Rev. Boone also grew up a Β½-mile from the new park site and attended elementary and high school in this community."

β€œI am pleased that District 3 will be the home of a new park with a number of recreational features for all of our residents to enjoy,” Councilman Young said. β€œThe 1.39 acre park will have a walking path and areas for playing, picnicking and relaxing but more importantly it recognizes one of our city’s most beloved citizens who served the West Lake Community tirelessly.”
