The 22nd Season of the Ballethnic Dance Company Begins this Saturday - Open to All Ages

Atlanta’s leading African-American dance organization, Ballethnic Dance Company, now in its 22nd season offers both a professional company that mounts major productions and an academy that provides dance training to children, teens and adults.

Both the professional dancers and the Youth Ensemble’s pre-professional trainees perform in a unique style that fuses classical ballet with African, jazz and other ethnic dance elements.

The more than 150 children and youth enrolled in Ballethnic’s Academy will get to revive their interest and restart their training at “Back to Dance Day” on Saturday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the studio. The special day will offers lots of dance-related activities, games and food for current students, their families and friends, prospective enrollees and community supporters.

Ballethnic has already issued a casting call for both professional and amateur
dancers to try out for their seasonal opera, The Urban Nutcracker. The formal audition sessions will be conducted on Saturday, September 15, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Ballethnic’s studio, 2587 Cheyney Street in East Point, GA 30344.

“Our Urban Nutcracker is probably one of the largest and most challenging ballets that we produce, “ says Waverly Lucas, co-founder and co-artistic director for Ballethnic. “It calls for extensive staging, elaborate costumes as well as 70 performers in the multi-cultural cast.”

All participants are required to pay a $15 audition fee.
