The surviving family of 76 year-old Mary Oliver, who was killed in her sleep when a fellow resident at Baptist Towers kicked her door in and stabbed her, is now suing the senior facility and says the center is full of drug abuse and prostitution.
In late June, Geary Otis was charged with murder and aggravated assault when he stabbed 2 fellow residents at southwest Atlanta's Baptist Towers for no apparent reason. In a press conference the family's lawyer, Christopher Chestnut said, "Ms. Oliver was stabbed to death in her sleep after her door was kicked in. And her children thought she was safe."
According to the family, there were no security cameras working, there was no security officer inside the building, and the, "security guard was standing outside smoking a cigarette, watching the unlocked gate that was broken."
On of the victim's adult daughters says that during one of her visits to the facility she witnessed a prostitute having oral sex with a man outside near some picnic tables. She also claims drugs are readily available at the center.
Baptist towers denied the opportunity to talk with Cascade Patch.
