Back In Black: New Uniforms, Patch Coming To Forsyth Deputies

In this video, Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman explains the reason and purpose of the new uniforms deputies will soon be wearing.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies have been wearing their green and tan uniforms since 1997 but, after a survey, Sheriff Ron Freeman thought it was time for a change.

One of the biggest reasons for the change is for deputy comfort and the ability to adapt body cameras to the uniform, he said. The Sheriff's Office will soon have 80 body cameras.

After becoming Sheriff last year, Freeman said deputies were telling him the uniforms weren't functional. A survey given to deputies found that 80 percent wanted new uniforms. So, after 21 years, a change is coming. Freeman said the department began looking for the highest quality with the best performance.

After a wear-test by deputies, the uniforms have been approved, along with a new patch on the shoulder.

"The new patch will boldly proclaim, 'We are Forsyth County,'" Freeman said. "And I think that's important. We're proud to be here. We're proud to serve in this community. And we wanted that to be prominent on our uniforms and that's part of our new patch design as well."
