Deputy First Class Eric Weaver Recognized by His Peers

The  Precinct of the names Deputy First Class Eric Weaver as “Deputy of the Month” for June 2011.

According to Capt. Ron Freeman, South Precinct Commander, DFC Weaver was instrumental in locating and questioning three individuals suspected of several car thefts earlier this summer.

On June 11, the Sheriff’s Office received several reports of car windows being broken at Sharon Springs Park. While other deputies were responding to these thefts, DFC Weaver went to the Big Creek Greenway parking area on Bethelview Road to see if there had been any similar crimes. 

Upon his arrival, DFC Weaver noticed three people in a Jeep Liberty in the back of the parking area. As soon as the occupants noticed the deputy they immediately left the area. Capt. Freeman stated, that DFC Weaver was able to acquire enough probable cause to conduct a traffic stop on the Jeep.

During the interview, the stories of the individuals were inconsistent prompting DFC Weaver to conduct a search of the vehicle. He did find a tiny piece of glass that appeared to be from a vehicle window. Weaver did not have enough probable cause to make an arrest at that time, but concluded that the suspects were probably breaking into cars.

The information obtained during that traffic stop did help investigators link the three people in the Jeep to cashing checks that were stolen from one of the vehicles at Sharon Springs Park. Those checks were cashed in Newnan (about 76 miles from Cumming).

“In fact, had it not been for DFC Weaver’s intuition and quick action, the fraudulent activity associated with our victims would have never been tied to these suspects,” Capt. Freeman said in a news release.

DFC Weaver has been with the FCSO since October 2006.

During the year, each Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Precinct recognizes a Deputy of the Month. At the end of each year, a Deputy of the Year is selected from the 12 monthly award winners.
