High-Speed Chase of Big Rig Ends in Arrest

Sheriff's deputies say the tractor-trailer exceeded 80 mph in a chase down Canton Highway early Wednesday.

CUMMING, GA -- A Dawsonville man is facing charges of fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving and other traffic offenses after he allegedly led Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase while driving an 18-wheeler early Wednesday morning.

Anthony Kent, 58, was spotted driving erratically on Canton Highway at approximately 1 a.m. and fled from an attempted traffic stop, sheriff’s office spokesman Epifiano Rodriguez said.

Kent allegedly blew through red lights and failed to maintain his lane while driving as fast as 80 miles an hour, Rodriguez added.

The chase ended when Kent hydroplaned, jackknifed, and hit a fire hydrant and street sign at Bald Ridge Marina Road at Market Place Boulevard, according to Rodriguez.

Kent was transported to the hospital and was in critical condition as of Wednesday. Rodriguez said that he could face additional charges after a blood test is completed by the GBI.
