Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. A new fitness opportunity called the Sunday Shred is coming to the City Center in Cumming, offered by BFT (Body Fit Training). These weekly workouts will take place at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater green every Sunday at 11:00 a.m., starting on Sep. 17. The 45-minute sessions will be led by certified trainers, and participants are encouraged to bring water and invite a friend. Although the class is free, registration is required.   2. The Forsyth County Department of Communications has received national recognition by winning first place in the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) Awards of Excellence for their 2022 Annual Report.   3. Forsyth County commissioners have approved additional funding of $20,325 for the Whole Health Building on the future Administration Campus. This change order includes $8,425 for the building's master plan and $11,900 for a sexual assault nurse exam (SANE) unit. While there was previous debate over whether SANE services should be provided in the health building, the funding was ultimately approved without discussion during a Sep. 7 meeting. (Appen Media)
  4. Forsyth County Schools has introduced a redistricting map for the 2024-25 school year to balance the student population across eight elementary schools.   5. The monthly meeting for Forsyth County senior citizens is open to all and covers various topics relevant to seniors. In the upcoming meeting, the speakers will be Assistant County Managers Tony Tarnaki and Barry Lucas from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
