📰 News we're reading
1. City of Cumming to dedicate intersection to law enforcement volunteer (accesswdun.com) — Cumming officials will dedicate the intersection of Castleberry Road and Buford Dam Road as the “Sergeant Rob Muth Memorial Intersection” during a public ceremony on Monday, Jan. 12, with traffic briefly diverted and parking at Fairgrounds Lot #3. The honor recognizes Sgt. Rob Muth, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office volunteer killed while directing traffic at December’s Christmas parade.

2. Here's What Eliminating Georgia's Income Tax Could Look Like (thegeorgiasun.com) — A powerful state Senate committee is pushing a plan that could eventually eliminate Georgia’s income tax, and Cumming’s own Sen. Greg Dolezal is one of the leading contenders for lieutenant governor involved. The proposal would first erase taxes on lower‑income earners, then phase out the tax entirely by 2032, raising big questions about how state services would be funded.

3. Cumming man charged with home invasion (northfulton.com) — A 47-year-old Cumming man was arrested after Forsyth County deputies say they found him inside a Spring Valley Drive home, yelling and trying to kick in a door around 1:55 a.m. on Dec. 20. According to the sheriff’s office, the heavily intoxicated man, who lives nearby, allegedly entered a bedroom where a 75-year-old woman and her husband were sleeping before she called 911.

4. EBCI set to leave NCAI in October (theonefeather.com) — Leaders of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina have voted to leave the National Congress of American Indians, partly over concerns about state‑recognized tribes such as the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee based in Cumming. Their move reflects growing tension between federally recognized and state‑recognized groups and could influence how Cherokee‑affiliated organizations near Cumming are viewed in broader tribal politics.
