Pinecrest High Students Excel on AP Tests

Seniors at have much to be happy about--they have excelled on recent Advanced Placement (AP) test scores.

According to a news release, the class of 2011 earned a passing rate of 88 percent surpassing Georgia's pass rate of 55 percent. The school reports that the passing rate for its graduates has trended upward since the high school opened.

In 2007, the first graduating class at Pinecrest achieved a passing rate of 65 percent on their AP tests, again exceeding Georgia’s 56 percent rate.

The numbers have even more meaning for school officials and students considering that, "at Pinecrest, all AP students take the exams; there is no “opt out” option available as in other schools," the news releases states.

In 2011 the school had a total of 19 AP Scholars with an average score of 3.98, two of the 19 students received scores of five on all tests taken.

Students who earn the “AP Scholars with Distinction” designation must receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP tests taken and scores of three or higher on five or more of these tests, one student achieved this level.

The “AP Scholars with Honors” designation is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP tests taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these tests. There are five students who recevied this designation.

Thirteen students at Pinecrest earned the “AP Scholars” designation. Students who receive scores of three or higher on three or more AP tests are granted this designation.
