Sawnee Ballet Theatre New Season Begins

SBT is dedicating it's 33rd season to Joan Kall Stewart

Cumming, GA - Sawnee Ballet Theatre (SBT) is pleased to announce the start of its 2024-25 season. This year marks the 33rd season for SBT and the addition of 14 new company members to bring the total to 28 members. The company consists of dancers who range from the 7th to the 12th grade. SBT is dedicating this season to the founder and mother of Sawnee School of Ballet and Sawnee Ballet Theatre, Joan Kall Stewart, also affectionately known as Miss Joanie to her many students. She passed away April 15, 2023 and has been missed. SBT will be honoring her legacy to the dancing community during both of their productions this season.

Sawnee Ballet Theatre is thrilled to once again be part of the Forsyth County Arts and Learning (FoCAL) Center season with its 33rd annual production of the holiday classic The Nutcracker which will take place on December 7,8,14, & 15 at the FoCAL Center. This will be an exhilarating performance and will include restaged choreography from Joan Kall Stewart during Act II’s Land of Sweets. The SBT spring concert will be From Ballet to Broadway: An Evening Remembering Joan Kall Stewart. This will be a show of breathtaking performances showcasing Miss Joanie’s choreographic masterpieces, performed by talented dancers who carry forward her artistic vision. It will blend the grace of ballet with the glamour of Broadway. The show will be held at the FoCAL Center in the spring of 2025 on April 12 and 13.

Sawnee Ballet Theatre is extremely grateful to have received two large grants for the upcoming 2024-25 season from the Forsyth County Arts Alliance Fund at the North Georgia Community Foundation. Each grant is worth $5,000. One of the grants is being awarded for the 2024 SBT Nutcracker performance. The second grant is for SBT’s spring 2025 production of From Ballet to Broadway. We are excited for this upcoming season and can’t wait to present these performances to the community.
