"Uniform Patrol arrived on the scene, tried to make contact with him, tried to talk to him, talk him out with no avail," said House. "So SWAT and crisis negotiators were brought in to negotiate with him about 4 o'clock this morning."
House said in addition to SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Forsyth County Fire and EMS were on the scene.
This is not the first time Whelchel has been in trouble with the law. He was arrested by the FCSO in August and charged with family violence battery, and obstruction and cruelty to children, said House.
