West Forsyth Cheerleaders Earn Fourth Place in State Championships

The West Forsyth Varsity Cheerleaders earn fourth place in the recent state competition.

The Varsity Cheerleaders recently placed fourth in the Class AAAAA division of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) 2011 Cheerleading State Championship in Columbus.

"These girls rallied, practiced hard and put forth great 'heart' to take the fourth-place title," said Melissa Smith, Booster President of WFHS Varsity Cheerleading.

Sixty-three Class AAAAA teams competed for the state title, but only eight from each region compete at the state level, according to Smith. The West Forsyth team took second in its region (which includes Cumming and Alpharetta) and were the only team in Forsyth County to do so.

"The theme of their music was love and it took a whole lot of that for these girls to come through," Smith said. "The parents and coaches were so proud of them."
