A Barrow County man is $1 million richer after matching the first five numbers in the Dec. 17 Mega Millions drawing.
According to a press release from the Georgia Lottery, Jesse Whitley, 30, an air conditioning and heating repairman from Bethlehem, set a reminder on his phone to purchase a ticket for Tuesday night's drawing. When he checked his numbers online Wednesday morning, he shared the good news with his wife.
“She didn’t believe me when I told her,” he said. “She still doesn’t believe me.”
Whitley purchased the winning ticket at the CITGO on Patrick Mill Road in Winder.
Whitley, who has one child and a second on the way, said he and his wife have not yet decided what they will do with their winnings.
