- The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the county's 2023 budget of $2.47 billion this week. The budget includes an operating budget of $1.78 billion and an improvements budget of $488 million. "Our vision is to ensure Gwinnett is the preferred community where everyone thrives, and this budget takes strides to support that vision while we navigate global economic uncertainty," said Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson. - A Gwinnett County woman celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan. 5. Julia Ramos is the only surviving sibling of six. When asked how she felt on her 100th birthday, she said "I feel 16." (11 Alive)
- It's almost the first full weekend of the new year! - Many pets are available for adoption in the Dacula area. This week's roundup of adoptable dogs, cats, and other animals in the area includes several puppies, a few pigs, and many dogs and cats looking for a new home. The full list of adoptable pets is available at the link. (Dacula Patch)
- Harbins Elementary School is still on the search for a principal, but in the meantime, the school would like to welcome Mrs. Brenda Anderson as interim principal! She comes to the position with many years of experience. (Harbins Elementary PTA via Facebook)
- Join the Gwinnett County Public Library and the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments for a free eight-week nutrition class! The class will take place weekly on Tuesdays from Jan. 10 through Feb. 28. Registration is required. (Gwinnett County Public Library via Instagram)
