Fake Officer Continues to Try to Scam Locals Over the Phone
Person claiming to be with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department attempts to trick residents into paying nonexistent tickets.

A phone scam continues to circulate around the area.Â
On July 7, a Dacula man told police he received a call from a man claiming to be with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department and asking to speak with his wife.
According to a police report, the victim thought it was strange that the caller asked for his wife by her maiden name, which she hadn't used in 14 years.
The caller told the man that his wife had failed to appear in court for a traffic violation for running a red light, and that he would issue a bench warrant in her name.  The caller also threatened to charge the man with harboring a criminal and said police would come to his house.
At that point, the man ended the conversation without giving any additional information to the caller.Â
Other area residents in recent weeks have reported receiving similar calls. In some cases, the victims fell for the phony ticket scam and sent money to the caller.  Â
