Gwinnett County Man Drowns In FL Trying To Rescue Family Members

CLEARWATER, FL — A Gwinnett County man drowned Monday afternoon while attempting to rescue two family members who were having trouble in the water in Florida.

According to Clearwater Fire Rescue officials, Thanh Nguyen, 55, swam out into the ocean to help his son and niece, who were struggling in the water. Nguyen then began struggling himself.

Lifeguards were alerted and found Nguyen floating in the water. They attempted CPR until medics arrived.

He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
