Here are the top three stories today in Dacula:

  1. Gwinnett County School Board members are considering a revised health education curriculum, but about 90 percent of parents are opposed to the new sex education modules. According to some teachers, the new modules engage the students more than "outdated textbooks." Some board members believe that parents felt left out of the proposed lessons and that is one reason they oppose the changes. The vote on the new program is expected to happen next month but even if the vote is passed, parents can "opt out of the unit at any time." (11 Alive)
  2. Georgia Gwinnett College partnered with local schools to host its "Super Saturday Series." The series gave middle school students hands-on experience with STEM-related fields including biology, chemistry, exercise science, and information technology. Dacula Middle School student Thomas Lewis, 12, has a newfound interest in biology after studying plastic representations of human skulls, bones, and teeth at the event. (Gwinnett Daily Post)
  3. This Saturday, Mar. 4, is Gwinnett County Public Schools' (GCPS) Spring Career Fair! GCPS is hiring all staff for the 2023-2024 school year. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Gas South Convention Center, the event will be located at 6400 Sugarloaf Pkwy. in Duluth. (Gwinnett County Public Schools via Facebook)
