Gwinnett Elections Board Proposes 16 Days Early Voting For Runoff

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Gwinnett voters may have 16 days to vote in advance of the January runoff election if a proposal by the county election board is approved by Gwinnett commissioners.

Early voting in Gwinnett would begin on Dec. 14 and end on Dec. 31 under the election board’s plan with at least eight locations seven days a week, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Jan. 5 election will include runoffs for both of Georgia’s U.S. Senate seats, as well as a runoff for public-service commission that had originally been scheduled for Dec. 1.

Runoffs typically draw fewer voters than general elections, but with the intense interest in both Senate races — which could flip the chamber to Democratic control — high turnout is expected.

The January vote “may be the most unusual runoff this state has ever seen,” elections board member Stephen Day said, as reported by the Atlanta newspaper.
