Gwinnett Man Hit, Killed By Shoplifting Suspects Fleeing In Van

Police are seeking two suspected Walmart shoplifters whose fleeing van hit a pedestrian, dragging him onto Satellite Bouelvard.

Witnesses told Suwanee police they saw two Black men shoplifting inside the Walmart Saturday evening. When the men were confronted by store employees, they fled into the parking lot and left in a U-Haul van that hit and killed a Sugar Hill man.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A Sugar Hill man died after being struck Saturday by a van driven by suspected shoplifters fleeing a Suwanee Walmart, according to authorities.

Christian Gutierrez, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene after a U-Haul van hit him as it left the parking lot of the Walmart on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road. The van then dragged him about the length of a football field onto Satellite Boulevard, according to Suwanee Police Lt. Robert Thompson.

Witnesses told Suwanee police they saw two Black men shoplifting inside the Walmart Saturday evening. When the men were confronted by store employees, they fled into the parking lot and got into a U-Haul van, possibly with Arizona tag AJ38446.

The two unidentified suspects were recorded on security video leaving the Walmart. Anyone with information on them is asked to contact the Suwanee Police Department at 770-945-8995.
