Gwinnett School Board Set To Meet The Public In District Meetings

Gwinnett's school board and new superintendent Calvin Watts will host a series of meet-and-greets in each district starting Tuesday.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA β€” Want to meet your school-board representative and the district’s new superintendent in person? Starting next Tuesday, you can.

The Gwinnett County Board of Education will go on the road starting on Aug. 24, meeting once in each board member’s district for give and take with parents and the public. Dr. Calvin Watts, the district’s new superintendent, will headline each meeting.

Each meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the host school’s theater, with a board governance team meet-and-greet starting at 6:30 p.m. For those who don’t speak English, interpreters will be available to assist those who speak Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese or Chinese.

Because of COVID-19 precautions, only limited seating will be available, and masks will be required. Gwinnett County Public Schools has posted a guide to decorum at these meetings on its website.

Although each meeting is tied to a specific district, citizens from anywhere in the county may attend any meeting. All meetings will also be recorded and streamed on the Gwinnett County Public Schools website or via the GCPS TV app.

Here are dates and locations for each meeting, along with a list of schools and clusters included in each district.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 24, District I
    • Board member Karen Watkins, vice chair
    • Grayson High School, 50 Hope Hollow Road, Loganville
    • District I includes all or portions of the Archer, Brookwood, Central Gwinnett, Dacula, Discovery, Grayson, Mill Creek, Mountain View, and South Gwinnett clusters, and Oakland Meadow School.
  • Thursday, Aug. 26, District II
    • Board member Steven B. Knudsen
    • Mill Creek High School, 4400 Braselton Highway, Hoschton
    • District II includes all or part of the Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Collins Hill, Lanier, Mill Creek, Mountain View, and North Gwinnett clusters, as well as GIVE Center East, Gwinnett Online Campus and Phoenix High School.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 31, District III
    • Board member Dr. Mary Kay Murphy
    • North Gwinnett High School, 20 Level Creek Road, Suwanee
    • District III includes all or part of the Collins Hill, Duluth, Lanier, Norcross, North Gwinnett, and Peachtree Ridge clusters, as well as Buice Center , GIVE Center West, New Life Academy of Excellence and North Metro Academy of Performing Arts.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 14, District IV
    • Board member Everton Blair Jr., chair
    • Berkmar High School, 405 Pleasant Hill Road, Lilburn
    • District IV includes all or portions of the Berkmar, Brookwood, Grayson, Meadowcreek, Parkview, Shiloh and South Gwinnett clusters.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 5, District V
    • Board member Dr. Tarece Johnson
    • McClure Health Science High School, 3921 Club Dr., Duluth
    • District V includes all or portions of the Berkmar, Discovery, Duluth, Meadowcreek, and Norcross clusters, in addition to Maxwell High School of Technology and Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology.
