- A Gwinnett County Police Department K-9 officer has been awarded the Law Enforcement Purple Heart Award. His handler, Corporal Aaron Carlyle has also been presented with the award. Kai was shot by a suspect during an attempted arrest in May following a domestic incident in a nearby Lawrenceville neighborhood. Kai is the first K9 in the department to be presented with the award. - The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide. The mother of an elementary school student was killed in Buford with the child in the home. The child's father is in critical condition at a local hospital. The father has been charged with aggravated assault and felony murder. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
