It's good to have long-term goals right? I have a new one after reading about an OAP (Old Age Pensioner) cheerleading squad in Arizona.
This group of senior citizens, based in Sun City, Ariz.,Β is "smashing through age stereotypes as they delight audiences with their acrobatic and high-energy routines, despite all being over 55-years-old," the Daily Mail reports.
What's not to like about this? I could be a 55-year-old grandma delighting an audience, doing acrobatic routines and having lots of energy. That sounds a heck of a lot better than a bridge club.
So what do I need to do to make this happen? Well, apparently there are a few things:
1. I have to wait until I am over 55 years of age. No problem. That gives me plenty of time to practice.
2. I need to move to Arizona. This is not a deal-breaker. I like it hot and, if I get arthritic, I think this might be a good thing.
3. I am going to have to get accustomed to lycra and sequins. Currently I have absolutely nothing in my closet that is made of lycra or has sequins. I will do this though because I think I could rock the cowgirl outfits shown in the Daily Mail article.
4. Here's where things get a bit dicier though. According to the Daily Mail article, prospective Sun City Poms must possess "dance skills of rhythm, agility, poise, energy, and showmanship for performing," while "acrobatics and baton twirling are a plus." My baton twirling is really, really rusty and my "dance skills of rhythm" may be questionable based on my recent "Just Dance" scores.
Still, I am optimistic I can get all these pieces to fall into place over the next 15 years. I just need to get me some lycra and start dancing!
What do you think you'll be doing for fun 15 years from now? Let me know in the comments.
