🌱 No Charges In County Jail Death + Chop Shop Operator Arrested

Here are the top three stories in Dacula today:

  1. The Gwinnett District Attorney's Office has decided to not file charges in a preventable county jail death. Dacula's Deion Strayhon, 26, died from a bleeding ulcer last year. According to a GBI report, Strayhon attempted to receive medical treatment multiple times. So far this year, two inmates have died in the Gwinnett County Jail. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Gwinnett County is upgrading its fleet of fire trucks and ambulances. The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the $7.8 million upgrades during a recent meeting. The fire truck contract is going to Sutphen Corp., the original manufacturer of the vehicles. The ambulance funds will be used to remount eight vehicles on the new chassis. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. An accused chop shop operator has been arrested in Gwinnett County. Henry Whitley has been evading law enforcement since last month after running from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office. The chop shop was discovered on Tribble Gap Road. Investigators seized drugs, car parts, cash, and firearms. He will be returned to Hall County to face charges there. (WGAU)

  • The next free Pop-Up Park Play Day will be at Graves Park on Jul. 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program is meant to provide recreational resources to county families. (Gwinnett County)
