Here are the top five stories in Dallas-Hiram today:
- Dallas, Georgia native and former Notre Dame offensive lineman Paul Duncan passed away at the age of 35 late last week. According to his wife, Duncan went into cardiac arrest while out on a run and was pronounced brain dead on Jul. 15. Duncan graduated from East Paulding High in 2005 and went on to play five seasons with the Fighting Irish. He also briefly played with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie free agent. - A federal appeals court has ruled that the Georgia "heartbeat bill" can go into effect. The three-judge panel ruled on Wednesday that the anti-abortion bill can go forward. The law would ban most abortions once a "detectable human heartbeat" is present, typically six weeks into a pregnancy. (Reuters)
