- Between Jan. 4, 2021, and Aug. 31, 2022, 13 defendants were sentenced and another five pleaded guilty in a scheme to obtain over $12 million in PPP and EIDL funds. In the loan applications, the conspirators fraudulently certified the applicant businesses. The PPP loan proceeds were used to purchase two Range Rovers, an Acura NSX, and a Mercedes Benz S-Class S65 AMG. Andre Lee Gaines, 67, of Dallas, was sentenced to five years of probation. (Department of Justice)
- With the local Trunk or Treat event five days away, the City of Hiram Facebook has established a mystery for children to follow along with. As their story states, the "infamous Hiram Bandit" has hidden all of the candy for the Trunk or Treat. The story was accompanied by a photo of a costumed bandit and followers were encouraged to comment with tips to locate the "bandit." (City of Hiram via Facebook)
- The School Road waterline has officially been extended after 40 years of petitions. Even after petitions were approved, lack of funding delayed the extension until this year before finally completing in October. At the unveiling on Oct. 10, many local citizens who will finally have water were in attendance. (Paulding County via Facebook)
- Locals Zac Tubbs and Nathaniel Stewart instruct the Uppercut Crew, a youth boxing program with the Paulding County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department. The program also offers mentoring talks called TKO Talks for 10 minutes per class. The Georgia Department of Public Health implemented the boxing coaches' Coaching Boys into Men program this past spring and the recreation department will receive $5,000 to use toward future programming.
