Paulding Man Faces More Charges For Stealing School Bus, Girlfriend Also Charged: Sheriff

Authorities say the girlfriend of a Paulding man accused of stealing a bus and taking it on a "joy ride" was also involved in the crime.

PAULDING COUNTY, GA β€” A Paulding County couple face charges after sheriff's deputies say they stole a school bus, drove it while impaired and plowed it into a Dallas homeowner's fence β€” while damaging their own car in the process.

Just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, Cody Dalton Green and Haley Michelle Turner, both 21, broke into Moses Middle School property, stole a school bus, busted open the gate and began a "joy ride," a spokesperson for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies say both Green and Turner were "extremely intoxicated/impaired" while driving the stolen bus. During their "joy ride," the couple pushed their own car up the road while it was parked near the school.

After taking turns behind the wheel, Green crashed the bus into the fence of a home on Birch River Point in Dallas. Green and Turner were reportedly restrained by neighbors until deputies arrived.

Green was arrested on the scene and charged with 10 charges, including DUI while driving a commercial motor vehicle, theft by taking, criminal interference with government property, possession of heroin, two counts of hit and run and other charges.

It was later determined that Green initially used his brother's name when he told officials his personal information. Charges of giving a false name and date of birth, two counts of violation of DPS transportation rules and loitering and prowling were added to his list of charges.

Due to the level of impairment that Turner exhibited, she was immediately rushed to the hospital for evaluation and not initially charged. Authorities believed she had a possible overdose.

Deputies reviewed video footage and determined Green and Turner both drove the bus, and when Turner was released from the hospital later on Tuesday, she was arrested.

Turner faces three charges: theft by taking, criminal interference with government property and loitering and prowling.

The couple is being held in the Paulding County jail without bond, and more charges are possibly pending, the sheriff's office said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Tip Line at 770-443-3047 or submit a tip via the free Paulding Sheriff mobile app.
