Sick Of Traffic On Highway 278? Paulding, GDOT Want Your Thoughts For Highway Study

PAULDING COUNTY, GA β€” County and state transportation officials are conducting a study on Highway 278, and they want your input.

Paulding County, along with the Atlanta Regional Commission, Georgia Department of Transportation and the cities of Dallas and Hiram are initiating the 278 study, which will stretch from the Paulding/Cobb county line to Buchanan Street in Dallas, a news release said.

The purpose of the 10-month study is to prioritize improvements along the corridor, including:

  • Roadway expansion
  • Intersection improvements
  • Land use access controls
  • Alternative routes
  • Safety and operations
  • Emerging technologies
  • Freight
  • Incorporation of "complete streets" policies and guidelines
  • Considerations of multiple modes of travel such as bicyclists, pedestrians and transit users

The study will conclude this fall, but until then, study leaders are asking for the public's input on Highway 278's conditions, needs and possible improvements.

Additionally, there's an in-person public meeting about the study March 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the Paulding County Watson Government Complex, located at 240 Constitution Blvd., Dallas, in the first floor cafeteria.

There will be more opportunties to engage with the planning team in late spring and summer as well, a news release said.
