Motorist Recovering After Highway 61 Crash In Paulding

Paulding County first responders rescued motorist last weekend after crash on Highway 61 near Bartow County line: fire department.

PAULDING COUNTY, GA β€” A motorist is recovering from serious injuries after firefighters and police officers last weekend pulled him out of a vehicle that crashed into trees along Highway 61, according to Paulding County Fire/Rescue.

The accident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, when a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Donavan J. Ellis, 19, went off the west side of GA 61 near Harmony Grove Church Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The SUV rolled down an embankment and hit several trees, the fire department said.

The site of the accident is in northern Paulding near the Bartow County line. Police closed down the highway in that area as sheriff's deputies and firefighters extricated Ellis from the vehicle, the fire department said.

Ellis was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and the highway was reopened by 9 a.m. Saturday.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol said the agency is investigating the crash, "and it is believed that alcohol was a factor."

No other factors, such as speed, are believed to be a cause of the crash, the spokesman added.
