DALLAS, GA β€” A deputy injured in a shooting that killed the accused gunman Thursday is expected to make a quick recovery, Paulding County Sheriff Ashley Henson said.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m. in the Brooke Valley community, where deputies were performing a welfare check for a person Henson said was having a mental health episode.

The suspect brandished a gun when the deputies arrived at the home and shot at them, Henson said. The deputies then shot back, killing the suspect, the sheriff added.
