Top Science Fair Honors Awarded To Paulding County High Students

Seven students from Paulding County were among those recognized for state science-fair projects judged as best in their categories.

DALLAS, GA β€” Seven Paulding County High School students were among top winners at the 74th Georgia Science and Engineering Fair, held recently in Athens at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education.

Jack Shipp and Preston Taylor won the USDA Agricultural Research Service Award for Excellence in the Senior division for the project titled β€œIncreasing Plant Survivability Through Chemical Applications.”

Ann Graham and Hiya Patel received GENIUS Olympiad Recommendations for their project titled β€œMeasuring Chlorophyll.” The recommendation gives the pair a chance to compete in the GENIUS Olympiad, a competition where high-school students focus on environmental issues. Graham and Patel were also awarded a U.S. Metric Association Award for the same project, and Graham individually was awarded a UGA Charter Scholarship.

Teegan Fitzgerald, Dawson Leveridge and Cameron Morani received a U.S. Agency for International Development Science Champion Award for their project titled β€œCreating a Super Absorbent Polymer Using Citrus Fruit Peels.”
