Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:
- On Thursday, May 11, Gabriel Mekel Adams was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm. However, the Whitfield County jury acquitted him of a felony murder charge and a separate aggravated assault. The trial centered around a shooting that occurred at 801 North Selvidge St. on Mar. 31, 2022. Adams' sentencing will take place on May 23. (Chattanoogan)
- The Dalton Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a woman accused of stealing a wallet. The incident took place on May 2 at the Glenwood Avenue Dollar General; the accused was spotted on surveillance video, apparently reaching into the shopping cart where the wallet was abandoned. Anyone with information on the woman's identity is asked to contact Detective Ben Ridley at (706) 278-9085, extension 9-122. (Dalton Police Department)
- The Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia has named its Students of Integrity scholarship winners for 2023, with each student receiving $1,000. The winners were recognized during the BBB's Torch Awards for Ethics luncheon on May 3. Local recipients included Parth Karande and Anna La from Dalton High School, sponsored by Shaw Industries and Food City respectively, and Joanna Nunez from Coahulla Creek High School in Dalton, sponsored by the Double Cola Company.
