  1. In nearby Calhoun Textile Rubber & Chemical Company awarded Katelyn Ball with this year's Joseph E. Willard Scholarship which she plans on using to further her education at North Georgia University. Ball is the 39 recipient of the scholarship that started back in 1984 in memory of a former employee, Joe Willard. The scholarship is awarded each year to a child of a company employee - Katelyn's father is a maintenance manager at Textile Rubber & Chemical’s Tiarco Chemical Division. (Daily Citizen)
  2. Dalton businessman Ace Hammack was selected as the honoree for the 2023 Toast of the Town dinner, which is the main fundraising event for the Family Support Council. Ace has been an integral part of the Dalton community since 1970 when he started working at Jolly Textiles, and he has dedicated almost 50 years to serving on the Dalton Salvation Army's advisory board. The Family Support Council's mission revolves around preventing child abuse and neglect in Whitfield County and providing support to teen mothers to help them lead independent lives while caring for their children.   3. Down the road in Gordon County, Zachary Lusk of North Georgia was arrested by deputies last week after officers found fentanyl in his car. Lusk was pulled over on Brownlee Mountain Road before resisting arrest and speeding away from the authorities starting a short-lived chase with police. He was quickly apprehended and upon searching his car investigators found drugs and other paraphernalia in the car. (Newsbreak)
