- In late May, several veterans who were involved with the Marshall Islands cleanup met in Dalton to further talk about their experience and what medical complications have been affecting them. The Atomic Clean-Up Mission took place during the 70s and this was the first time that more than 20 of those veterans involved with the cleaning were together in person to talk about what it was like. These individuals were exposed to radioactive debris and various chemicals, and 50 years later, many of them are presenting with major health issues. - Earlier this week, Shaw announced that effective immediately, the company will be closing its Decatur, Tennessee Carpet Plant and shifting the production to facilities throughout Northwest Georgia. By the end of August, Plant 10 will be ceasing operations, and more than 330 positions are expected to be affected by this shift in business. Shaw has invested millions in several facilities and plans to continue its high-quality service, those who are employed within the Shaw company will have opportunities to apply at other facilities for relocation. - Dalton Public Schools would like to welcome Wes Caldwell to the family, as he will be bringing his extensive coaching experience to the Dalton High School Catamounts as the new head baseball coach. - Earlier this week the Dalton Police Department arrested 62-year-old Charles Terry after he was caught on camera throwing a kitten onto a concrete parking lot outside the Humane Society. Terry turned himself in on warrants and was charged with animal cruelty and abandonment. (Dalton Police Department via Facebook)
- Summer is still running in full swing and it is important to take in all the relaxation of the break, but be sure that when the fun is over and the school bells return your child is ready for school. Check in with the County Health Department in North Georgia to ensure your child has all the necessary health requirements, you can learn more or make an appointment here. - Brock Williams from Bainbridge High School made the long journey to Dalton after learning from his coach that he was selected for the Georgia All-Star game. Williams led 4A in goals this season with 31, his stellar play during the season got him the nod in the All-Star Game as he was the second overall pick. Brock didn't make the trip to Dalton alone as his teammates Jose Bonilla-Ortiz and Dax Willis were also selected to the second and third teams. (Post Searchlight)
