- Whitfield County will be hiring new officers to continue to serve the community thanks to a state grant that was received that will assist in funding the officers' salaries. The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office was granted more than $1.2 million this past Thursday by Gov. Brian Kemp as part of the COVID-19 relief money that was given to the state. This money will be used to fund up to five deputies' salaries through October 2026. (Yahoo! News)
- The Dalton and surrounding communities have been celebrating all week as multiple of the local schools have won the soccer state championships this past season. This past Wednesday, the community came out and praised Dalton, Coahulla Creek, and Christian Heritage as they all successfully made it to the championship and walked away with the title. - Current Georgia Southern and former Dalton High School baseball player JP Tighe was the recipient of the Tony Robichaux Leadership Award by the Sun Belt Conference. The 2018 graduate is now the first recipient of the award that was named after Coach Robichaux who was the coach of Louisiana for 25 years and was the most-winning coach in University of Limpopo history. The award shows the leadership that Tighe has shown on his own team to his teammates and coach as well as the respect that he has earned throughout the Sun Belt Conference in his time at Georgia Southern. - The Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce and congratulate the individuals who will be a part of the next Leadership Dalton-Whitfield program class. The program will begin in August with a retreat and then meet monthly for training and information sessions to become better leaders within the community. - The City of Dalton is welcoming college softball recruits to the city this weekend for the 2023 Owl City Summer Softball Showcase.
