DeKalb County Postpones Earth Day Events; Decatur Waiting, Watching

The chance of rain is 30 percent Saturday, 20 percent Sunday.

Dekalb County is postponing this weekend's Earth Day activities because of the possibility of bad weather.

Patch checked with the City of Decatur to see what they're planning to do.

Cheryl Burnette of the Active Living Department said Thursday morning that nothing has been postponed. In an email, she said,

I am still hoping for good weather. Earth Day and Touch A Truck are still on at this time. We will cancel Touch a Truck sometime Friday morning if it looks bad for Saturday, and  Earth Day will go on unless there is lightning and thunder. Maybe we can dance in the rain and celebrate the rain that gives our earth plants and life.

. Touch-a-Truck -- which was postponed already from March 3 because of weather -- is set for Saturday morning.

DeKalb County sent out this email late Wednesday.

Due to expected inclement weather and safety concerns, the Keep DeKalb Beautiful South River Cleanup, Gardens in the Park and Mason Mill Day at the Park events, all set for Saturday, April 21, have been postponed.

Gardens in the Park has been will be held May 5, 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Exchange Intergenerational Park, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30034.

Mason Mill Day at the Park has also been rescheduled for May 5, 1 – 4 p.m. at Mason Mill Park, 1340 McConnell Drive, Decatur, GA 30033.

 A date will be announced at a later time for Keep DeKalb Beautiful’s South River Cleanup.

The Decatur weekend forecast from www.weather.com has improved in recent days. On Friday morning the prediction was for a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday with a high around 77. On Sunday, there's now a zero percent chance of rain with a high in the low 70s..
