DeKalb Testing Schedule Conflicts with Religious Holidays
The school district says that students who miss the tests can make them up at a later date, but some parents want the tests rescheduled.

Some DeKalb County parents want the school district to reschedule a standardized test because it will be held during a pair of Jewish religious holidays.
This year’s administering of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills is set for Sept. 9 - 25, but the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah is being celebrated from Sept. 13 - 15. Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, is being celebrated from sundown on Sept. 22 to nightfall on Sept. 23.
A parent told WSB-TV that the district usually waits until the end of October to administer the tests, and hopes the district will reschedule the tests to be clear of the holidays.

District officials said that the testing schedule as it stands affects students who celebrate Jewish, Muslim, and Hindu holidays, and added that schools will offer make-up dates for the tests. Additionally, parents can reschedule the tests for their children.
