GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Stone Mountain

The shooting happened when police attempted to question a man outside a gas station, who then fled.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a DeKalb County officer-involved shooting that happened on Monday in Stone Mountain. The shooting happened in the Mountain Crest Apartment complex on N. Hairston Road. Three DeKalb deputies were at the Chevron gas station at N. Hairston Road and Center Drive, investigating an unrelated trespass citation.

Police saw Shekino Reid, 24, entering the gas station with a gun. They attempted to speak with Reid, when he fled from the deputies. The deputies attempted to detain Reid in the parking lot. Two deputies deployed their tasers on Reid, which was ineffective.

Reid eluded the deputies and fled on foot into the apartment complex. A DeKalb County police officer was in the area and responded. He attempted to apprehend Reid behind one of the buildings in the apartment complex. Reid was shot and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he remains. A gun was located at the scene where the shooting occurred.
