Interim Decatur City Planner Named
The city has not begun searching for a permanent replacement for the city planner position or the soon-to-be vacant senior engineer position

The City of Decatur has picked a temporary city planner following the departure of longtime Planning Director Amanda Thompson.
Angela Threadgill has been tapped to temporarily succeed Thompson, though City Manager Peggy Merriss tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the search for Thompson’s permanent successor has not begun yet.
Thompson, who is also a professional dancer and choreographer, will become the new Arts Program Officer for the Knight Foundation in Miami, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. According to the foundation, it “believes that the arts are a catalyst for public dialogue and that shared cultural experiences contribute to a sense of place and communal identity.”

“We are investing in the spaces and events where they can meet and connect. The goal is to foster a startup culture, open to the broader community, that helps make Miami a place where ideas are built,” the foundation says about its efforts in its home city.
Another vacant city post has been created with the looming departure of Senior Engineer John Madajewski, whose final day on the job is Friday. Merriss says the search for Madajewski’s successor hasn’t been launched, either.
