Local Students Are Competing in 'Destination Imagination' Games

They will go to a tournament May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Angie Graver sent along this information about local students who are competing in Destination Imagination, an educational program in which student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions in a tournament situation.

She writes:

Two teams comprising students from Avondale Estates and Decatur have won regional and state tournaments and have advanced to global finals where they will compete against teams world-wide in a creative problem-solving contest, "Destination Imagination."

The high school team consists of Decatur High School student Dylan Byers, Windsor Jones, Shaifer Jones, Graham Schunk and Mirina Garoufalidis and home-schooled students Jack Purdy and Collin Graver.

The middle school team consists of Renfroe Middle School students Kylie Mcarthur, Sydney Marie Jones, Sebrina Shelton and Addie Andrew; Kathryn Barclay of DeKalb School for the Arts; Zoe Webb of Atlanta Girls School; and Naomi Graver, home-schooled.

They will compete May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Each team has been working at least weekly towards solving a long-term challenge which is presented at tournament. The teams also are presented with an "instant challenge" in which they must think quickly and solve a problem in about four minutes.
