Parents, Students Invited To Talks on Drinking, Middle School Years

Tuesday, a discussion of underage drinking. Wednesday, Author Haley Kilpatrick will talk about the issues girls face in middle school.

Parents and caregivers should take note of two programs offered next week in the City Schools of Decaturs. Their kids are invited, too.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, the PTSA general meeting will be about the dangers of underage drinking. The program will be led by Terrie Moore, project coordinator for the Decatur Prevention Initiative, whcih is part of the Georgia Underage Drinking Prevention Initiative. The meeting will be held in the Decatur High Cafeteria.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, Haley Kilpatrick will talk to parents and daughters (ages 9 to 18) about the issues girls face in middle school today.

Kilpatrick is the author of The Drama Years: Real Girls Talk About Surviving Middle School – Bullies, Brands, Body Image and More and founder of Girl Talk, a mentoring program that pairs high and middle school girls.

The Decatur Education Foundation is sponsoring the program, which will be held in the Decatur High School Performing Arts Center. It's free and open to the public.
