• DeKalb CEO Cochran-Johnson announces cleanup of illegal tire dumping (ocgnews.com) — DeKalb County is spending $250,000 to clear massive illegal tire dumps, including several problem spots along Covington Highway and other locations in and around Decatur. Crews have already removed more than 37,000 tires, with the remaining difficult sites expected to be cleaned by late December as part of a broader push to fight organized dumping and restore neighborhoods.

• Mother sentenced for beating death of 4-year-old son because he was not potty trained (local12.com) — A DeKalb County jury has sentenced a Georgia mother to life in prison, plus 10 years, for the fatal beating of her 4-year-old son after police were called to a Decatur apartment in 2022. Jurors found her guilty of multiple murder and child cruelty charges after evidence showed repeated abuse and a fatal delay in seeking medical care.

• Two Georgia football players arrested on shoplifting charges (redandblack.com) — A University of Georgia running back from Decatur, Bo Walker, was arrested alongside teammate Dontrell Glover on misdemeanor shoplifting charges in Athens, with both players posting bond Friday evening. Walker, a freshman reserve who missed the SEC title game after surgery, is one of several Bulldogs recently facing legal trouble as the athletic department reviews the case.
