Man Facing Rape, Kidnapping Charges Arrested After Skipping Trial: DeKalb Sheriff

A DeKalb County man was out on bond in connection to rape and kidnapping charges when authorities say he skipped court the day of the trial.

DECATUR, GA — A Stone Mountain man has been arrested after authorities say he skipped bond and left the courthouse the day of the rape and kidnapping trial against him, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

The trial against Bryan Byers, 46, of Stone Mountain, was set to begin Monday; but, authorities said Byers reported to court and left before the proceedings started.

He was out on bond at the time in connection with kidnapping and rape charges related to a July 2017 incident, authorities said.

The court issued a warrant for his arrest on Monday, and he was arrested without incident around 11:30 a.m. the next day outside a Redan Road library, authorities said.

Byers was additionally charged with failure to appear for a jury trial, authorities said. He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail, where he is being held without bond, authorities said.
