Police: Homeowner Surprises, Shoots Burglar
A suspected burglar rang the doorbell of a Brookhaven townhouse and broke in when he thought no one was home, according to police.

A suspected burglar has been taken to the hospital after reportedly being shot in the head during a break-in, according to police.
Officers responded to a townhouse on Ashford Creek Drive off Ashford Dunwoody Road around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for reports of a burglary, WSB TV reports.
According to Brookhaven police, the suspect rang the doorbell for the townhouse several times, assumed no one was home when the owner did not respond and broke into the home.

“He made forced entry into the home (and) encountered the resident inside the home who fired one shot,” Officer Carlos Nino told WSB TV.
The suspect was struck in the head, Nino said.

Investigation is ongoing, and police say the suspected burglar underwent surgery.
