DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Parents and students, get ready. The first day of school for the 2023-24 year is approaching.
With the start of the new school year nearing, back-to-school events are being held throughout DeKalb County to prepare students.
So, if you are looking to have fun with the family and fill your backpacks with supplies, you may want to check out these back-to-school events in your area.

Decatur, it is time to get Back 2 Books.
Back 2 Books, a yearly back-to-school giveaway, will be sponsored by Beaming Brite and Sew Genius Foundation from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library, 2861 Wesley Chapel Road.
Organizers are seeking to help more than 300 students, according to the event page. Students must attend the event to benefit from it, organizers said.

Dresses, shoes, backpacks and school supplies will be distributed.

The 4th Annual Back-to-School Celebration will be held Saturday in Tucker.
The Omega Support Center will sponsor the gathering from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 4213 Fellowship Road, Suite C.
Free backpacks will be available along with resources and school supplies, organizers said.

The Plaza Fiesta back-to-school event will return to benefit DeKalb County.
DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is sponsoring the annual event with the DeKalb County School District and the STEED Society, according to a county news release. It will be held from noon-4 p.m. Sunday at 4166 Buford Highway NE.
"The partnership continues the work needed in Latino and immigrant communities to provide support for students and their families in need of assistance in preparation for the 2023-24 school year," read the news release.
The school district will donate school supplies, and the pediatric Pfizer Bivalent vaccine will be available to children ages 5 and older, according to the release. Appointments are not required.
“The partnership with the DeKalb County School District and the STEED Society are examples of key organizations coming together to serve DeKalb communities and assist Latino children and families,” Cochran-Johnson said in the release. “It takes a comprehensive, united effort to serve families across DeKalb County to ensure they are supported.”

Dunwoody, get ready to get Groovin' on the Green at this back-to-school bash, featuring Deep Velvet.
The City of Dunwoody is hosting the event from 6-9 p.m., Aug. 12, at Brook Run Park, 4770 N. Peachtree Road.
According to the city, the featured food trucks will be: Gumbeaux Girlz, Chew on Chuan, Eat Dis BBQ, South of Philly, King of Pops, Moondog Growlers and Top Job Beverages.
Dogs wearing a leash can attend the event. Guests are allowed to bring picnics, organizers said.
A carnival-themed back-to-school giveaway is planned Saturday for Stone Mountain.
The Harvest Army Church is sponsoring the giveaway. School supplies will be donated at the free event, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 2039 Rockbridge Road.
Food and music will be available. Organizers said games will include a basketball contest, face painting and a cup stacking contest.
