Weekend Planner: Non-Holiday Edition

Take in an improv competition at the Academy Theatre and a doggie ice-cream social at Taj Ma-Hound.

If you've already had your fill of mistletoe and carols, here are five non-holiday events for the weekend in Decatur and Avondale Estates. For a full list of happenings, go to the Events Calendar

1. Improv competition. Battleacts is for the whole family. It starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Academy Theatre. Tickets are $15 online.

2. Doggie Ice Cream Social. Bring in your pup for free doggy ice cream and meet your neighbors. Starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Taj Ma-Hound at 707 East Lake Drive, Decatur. Free.

3. Farmers markets. Farm Mobile will visit Intown Ace Hardware at 4 p.m. Friday and the regular Decatur Farmers Market will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday near Decatur High School.

4. Cells: The Universe Inside Us. This hands-on exhibit at the David J. Sencer Museum at the Centers for Disease Control is designed for children in grades 5-12. It's open through Jan. 4 with some holiday breaks. Free.

5. CPR training. Free for City of Decatur residents, $50 for everybody else. Starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at 509 N. McDonough St., Decatur.
