West African Drummer To Lead Workshop In Decatur Friday

Patch just received an email about a Black History Month event scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, in Oakhurst.

The following press release provides some details.

Ghana-born djembe and dunun master drummer Weedie Braimah will teach a drum workshop from 7:30-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at BNM Studio at 409 Mead Road Decatur.

Joined by New Orleans native and dancer, Christan Carter, expect to learn how the dance movements correspond with high-energy West Africa drumming techniques.

Weedie Braimah is a master drummer, teacher and consummate artist hailing from a long lineage of musicians; including his mother, a respected jazz drummer and his father, a world renowned composer and master drummer.

Born in Ghana, his twenty-year career began at the early age of two. He possesses a high-energy djembe style as seen in the Dagbumbe tribal group in Northern Ghana and is known for drawing the entire audience into his groove, zigzagging through Africa on a breathtaking rhythmic roller coaster.

There will be classes for dance only, drumming only and combination classes. Children and adults are welcome. The cost for classes starts at $5.
