What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2021 Around Decatur, Avondale

DECATUR-AVONDALE ESTATES, GA — Labor Day 2021 will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 6, marking the unofficial end of summer.

While most schools, banks and government offices will be closed in observance of the holiday, many businesses and some services will be operational as usual.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of for Labor Day:

  • DeKalb County government offices and courts are closed Monday.
  • Municipal offices for the cities of Decatur and Avondale Estates are closed Monday.
  • The DeKalb County Public Library system is closed Sunday, Sept. 5 as well as on Monday for Labor Day. Normal hours will resume Sept. 7.
  • Decatur garbage pickup: For residents in Decatur's city limits, regular service for Monday will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Regular service for Tuesday will be on Wednesday. All other days' routes are not affected.
  • Avondale Estates garbage pickup: There will be no trash service on Labor Day. All routes will have their trash picked up Tuesday, Sept. 7.
  • DeKalb County garbage pickup: The DeKalb County Sanitation Department is closed Monday, so there will be no garbage pickup. Collection will run one day late for all customers.
  • The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority will operate bus, rail and Atlanta streetcar services on Sunday schedules for the Monday holiday.
  • This is a federal holiday and all U.S. Postal Service post offices are closed Monday. There will be no mail delivery or pickup, with the exception of Priority Mail Express, which is delivered 365 days per year.
  • All banks will be closed.
  • Many retailers will be open for normal or adjusted hours on Labor Day. Check here.
