What's Open, Closed For New Year's Eve, Day In Decatur

The New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays will result in some closures and schedule changes in Decatur.

DECATUR, GA — New Year's Eve may be different again this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But something that hasn't changed is the closure of many services in Decatur for the holiday.

While New Year's Day is a holiday for federal employees, some services are starting their closures on New Year's Eve since Jan. 1 is a Saturday. Here are the openings and closings to know on and around New Year's Eve and New Year's Day:

  • DeKalb County and city of Decatur courts, facilities and offices are closed on Friday.
  • DeKalb County public safety services are available 365 days per year.
  • Garbage pickup in Decatur will take place a day late. Regular service for Monday, Jan. 3 will be collected Jan. 4. Regular service for Jan. 4 will be collected Jan. 5.
  • This is a holiday for federal employees and most U.S. Postal Service post offices are closed Saturday, but mail will be delivered and most postal offices will be open Friday.
  • DeKalb County Public Library campuses will close on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
  • City Schools of Decatur students are off until Jan. 4.
  • All banks will be closed Saturday.
  • Grocery store hours vary.
