Photo Gallery: Camellias Take The Spotlight At Woodlands Garden

Ruby Bock of , the seven-acre forest sanctuary off Scott Boulevard in Decatur, sent these beautiful photos of camellias.

In case you've never visited Woodlands, two programs are scheduled for this month.

• Sunday, March 25, 2 to 4 p.m., is the monthly Sunday In The Garden. Members of the North Georgia Camellia Society and Woodlands volunteers will be doing a pruning demonstration and sharing their enthusiasm for this winter-blooming plant.

• Saturday, March 31, from 2 to 4 p.m., the gaden will hold a camellia workday for more pruning and end-of-the-season clean up. Volunteers are welcome. If you're interested, contact Bock at  ruby@woodlandsgarden.org. The garden will  supply gloves and all the tools, but you should wear work clothes and bring your own water bottle.

Patty Bonner writes that winter at Woodlands Garden provides "a quiet peace and pleasant vistas that can’t be seen in summer."

Visible from the street are Japanese magnolias, apricot trees and early-blooming quince and forsythia, but the greatest interest is to be found in the “Camellia Patch.” Wandering among these 123 blossoming trees is an experience not to be missed. You may recognize some of the 67 identified varieties, or you may be able to help name some of the 30 plants that are still unidentified. Even if you know nothing about camellias, you will enjoy walking through the paths, looking for labels and admiring whatever bloom catches your eye.
