- The West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) Foundation raised over $150,000 in proceeds from its recent 20th annual Black Tie and Boots event. WGTC, which has a campus in Douglas County, offers more than 120 areas of study for those looking for an associate degree, technical certificate, or diploma. The funds raised by the event will go towards gap funding, scholarships, and more. (Subscription: The LaGRANCE Daily News)
- The Douglasville Police Department held its Community Enrichment Meeting Thursday night. The group discussed parenting issues and how to be accountable for their actions. Meetings are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- New Manchester High School Teacher Stan Jordan was honored as the 2022 Douglas County Teacher of the Year. New Manchester High School teachers have won the award four times in the past six years. - Marc Wilson, who has a reported connection to Douglas County, has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter. The crime dates back to 2020 when Wilson claimed he fired a gun in self-defense, killing Haley Hutcheson, 17. Wilson says he was under a racist attack by the boys in the vehicle with the victim when he shot at the car in self-defense. (Douglas Now)
- The Douglas County government was called out during a hearing on Tuesday about Douglas County Chief Judge William H. “Beau” McClain, who reportedly made an error when saying he did not have authority to remove a candidate from the November Ballot. The candidate in question was Democrat Ryan Williams who is running for chief magistrate. Georgia Supreme Court Justice Charles J. Bethel said the Douglas County government "is playing games with the process of qualifying candidates for office in a democratic society." (Douglas County Sentinel via Facebook)
